FAQ - Construction Services

Who are the majority of your landscape design/construction clients?
The majority of our clients are people interested in working with us from the initial design right through to completion of the construction project.

Do I need to be an existing grounds maintenance, snow or turf care client to engage your services?
No, you do not need to be an existing client to contract our design/construction services.

I have already have a landscape design. I am having several companies bid on the construction work. Will you make a bid for me?
Unfortunately, we generally do not make “open” bids or tenders for work. We strongly believe that part of the value of our services is our ability to offer unique design ideas and superior customer service throughout the entire construction process and allows us first-hand knowledge to help maintain the landscape upon completion.

How does the landscape design/construction process work?
The landscape design and construction process has three steps:

Phase 1: Initial Visit

In this step, a designer will visit your property and discuss the landscape design and construction process with you. The designer will talk about our company and hopefully answer your questions about the types of work that we do, our technical processes, frequently used materials, warranty, etc. The designer will also discuss our design fees in the next step of the process and your budget. At this time, we will also provide you with reference work and our portfolio. During this visit, the designer may walk the site to get an idea of your requirements, and this initial visit is a great time to ask questions. We do not charge for this visit. Please note that this is not a consultation. We will not discuss layout or produce any drawings or renderings. Unfortunately, we do not provide “ball park” figures for construction work.

Phase 2: The Design

You, the client, have agreed to contract Lindsay Landscape Enterprises Inc. to produce a design for you. The designer has set out the design fees and will arrange to meet you for the first of three meetings.

The first meeting the designer walk the site, discuss you requirements, get your thoughts on materials, and will suggest possible options for the project. This meeting is designed to get an “overall” scope of the work to de bone, with particular emphasis on function (your hardscape), and your requirement for plantings and softscape features.

At the second meeting, the designer will have a design ready for you. The designer will discuss the areas which you like/dislike and can offer some suggestions for alternatives.

The third meeting, the designer comes prepared with your final design. You will discuss every aspect of the design and any last changes can be discussed. The designer will have a proposal for you for the construction of your landscape design. If you require additional adjustments to the design, you may setup another meeting with the designer, however additional fees will apply. The design phase is complete. Full payment for the design is required.

Phase 3: The Construction

Your design has been completed and you have made all the changes that are required. The designer has the final proposal for the construction. You would like to proceed with the construction phase of the project. In order to begin work, we will require a 10% deposit, and a signed proposal. We can now set a preliminary date to begin construction. As the build date draws closer, our office will keep you updated on our schedule and our start date. The first day of the project, we will require a second deposit of 40%. As the project progresses, the designer and construction foreperson will be in contact with you to ensure that all is going according to plan. We will not close a construction until the client is satisfied. Once the project is complete, the designer will meet with you to ensure everything is perfect. At this time, final payment, including any change orders, is due.

What is your warranty?
Our warranty is three years on all hardscape installations, and one year on all plant material installations.
